After replacing the stock muffler with a HD muffler mine backfired something awful. Since I have made the simple carb mods (outlined in previous posts) backfiring is non-existent. Only a little burp between shifts and no more POW! on shutdown. The carb is set up too lean in stock form. I also feel the engine is running cooler and the exaust pipe doesn't seem to be changing color anymore. Read all the carb mod posts.
